SONIC STILLS FEST – Day 1
September 02, 2021
Stillverk 1

– co-presented by
NyMusikk Trondheim, TEKS & Cinemateket –

Day 2 of SONIC STILLS FEST can be described as the embodiment of artistic playfulness, finesse and musical integrity.

What Hildegunn Øiseth & Jovan Pavlovic, Petter Vågan and Bjørn Marius Hegge Trio have in common is that they take whatever they are influenced or inspired by, process it through the core, the heart, and turn it into their very own musical magic.

Before the music starts, you are invited to explore Juliane’s exhibition at Stillverk from 15:00, and join another screening session of Jordan Sand’s & Irreversible Entanglements’ video works at 17:00.

Obs: The evening is divided into Pt. 1 (starting 19:00) and Pt. 2 (starting 21:00). Same artists, same venue, different audiences!

Juliane Schütz (DE)
“All Constraints Are Beautiful”

Open from 15:00 (free entrance)

Limitation offers room for improvisation.
Improvisation creates room for exploration.
All Constraints Are Beautiful
.

Equipped with tons of 35mm film rolls, an old flatbed scanner, several brands of nailpolish remover and a lighter, Juliane presents her deep dive into the world of film-souping, and how something as analog as the 35mm film rolls, as a metaphor for her childhood in a socialist country, found its beautiful anthesis in her digitised present in Trondheim, Norway in 2021.

Hildegunn Øiseth & Jovan Pavlovic (NO/RS)

Set 1: 19:00, Set 2: 21:00

This much anticipated collaboration between trumpeter and billy goats horn player Hildegunn Øiseth and Trondheim’s city artist accordionist Jovan Pavlovic, will be, we believe, one to be remembered. What they both bring to the table is a wide open attitude filled with love affairs to Norwegian and Serbian folk music, sprinkled with influences from the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Please, have a seat and ENJOY!

Petter Vågan (NO)
Solo

Set 1: 19:30, Set 2: 21:30

Petter Vågan is a musician and improviser that has been moving through different genres throughout his career, always looking for the next kick, the next enigma to unravel. Be it through guitar, vocals, synths , electronics or other means he’s expressed himself through jazz, electroacoustic free improvisation, pop, rock and folk. Turning over stones, some things you bring along, some things you leave behind.

At this particular point in time you’ll hear drones, guitar noodlings and quiet songs with fresh perspectives.

Bjørn Marius Hegge Trio (NO/SE)

Set 1: 20:00, Set 2: 22:00

The three fearless improvisers that make up Bjørn Marius Hegge Trio have each made a significant mark on the Norwegian music scene. Hans Hulbækmo, Oscar Grönberg and Bjørn Marius Hegge’s sound as a trio is edgy and laborious in their spontaneous music-making. They invite the listener to a focused atmosphere where both audience and musicians are part of an attentive and transparent process. Their uniqueness lies in their ability for playfulness and clever wit, yet always keeping music in the center of the universe.

The last night of SONIC STILLS FEST is in the name of darkness, slowness, repetitiveness, loudness in the very widest definitions.
